Because of the nature of my practice, I elect to remain a "participating" provider, rather than a "preferred" provider with most insurance companies. Given this, only in rare cases do I bill insuranced companies directly. I will provide you invoices for our counseling sessions and you can work with you4r insurance company to negotiate reimbursement. This way, you may receive at least some amount of benefit from your carrier. No matter what occurs between you and your insurance company, my fee is required at the close of each meeting.

I extend to you entirely confidential and fully private mental health care. This way I am able to focus my full attention on helping you resolve your challenges when you visit my practice. Rather than dispersing my time and energy to work arduously for your insurance carrier, I offer private pay services and entirely private care.

Please be aware that all insurance companies require mental health professionals to provide them an accurate, clinically justifiable, and "treatable" psychiatric diagnosis. That is, some form of "psychopathology" like Major Depressive Episode, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder or Bipolar Affective Disorder.  Your insurance company must deem your counseling to be "medically necessary" if they are to agree to pay for mental health care.

Remain aware that most companies have also implicitly contracted with you to reserve their right for administrators to directly and summarily audit the content (my notes) of your mental health recored. Once a formal psychiatric diagnosis is submitted to your insurance company -- this is likely to be sustained life-long as part of your permanent medical record. Please consider this as you explore mental health care or addiction counseling.

Many insurance companies will reimburse you for some portion of the cost for mental health counseling with a licensed therapist, psychologist or psychiatrist. Please contact your insurance provider to find out if they will provide reimbursement for a Washington State Licensed Mental Health Counselor, how many sessions, and at what rate you will be reimbursed, It is your obligation to determine what information they will require in order to reimburse you directly. I will provide you accurate invoice templates with appropriate procedure and diagnostic codes if you wish to submit my invoices on your own.

Perhaps the best payment option is through your health insurance company if mental health coverage is provided by your insurance plan. But remember, only in rare contracted cases, am I able or willing to bill insurance companies directly. I will gladly write you hand written invoices at the close of each session. Just ask! Once the invoice is written, It must remain your responsibility to save and distribute these invoices. Rarely, am I willing or able to communicate with your insurance administrators!

For clients without mental-health benefits, an appropriate fee is negotiable. Reasonable-cost services are offered for problems excluded by many insurance plans (e.g., habit-control, mood management, self-regulation, life adjustment difficulties, "codependency” and similar relationship problems, motivational family intervention). Please note that family intervention service represent "conjoint counseling" services and this is rarely covered by insurance plans!
