Dr. Patrick J. Hart
Psychotherapist and Mental Health Counselor
My clinical approach to counseling and psychotherapy has been shaped by a wide range of psychological perspectives. These include contemporary research–based cognitive and behavioral “models” for human change. My commitment is to engage wholeheartedly in the challenges that confront our work together – a corresponding willingness is naturally required of you.
I view the “psychotherapeutic” change process as an agreement of honest collaboration, mutual responsibility – decisive action – and shared devotion to strive toward outcomes that are defined and valued by you. Should you desire my assistance, I offer you my full participation during our scheduled time together.
My private practice extends to you an exceptionally comfortable, safe and peaceful environment for mental health evaluation or therapeutic services. Personalized guidance and care options are available for anyone struggling with problems of mood, emotion, or adjustment to baffling and confusing life–transitions. I have long provided help to extremely guarded individuals in high-visibility occupations or professional groups.
Solution oriented with my clients, I endorse holistic perspectives and practice evidence based approaches to human change. I am a proponent of contemporary behavior analysis and a practitioner of cognitive and behavioral psychotherapy. In the same tradition – a humanist at heart.
As an alternative or addition to profoundly useful “Twelve Step” fellowship resources, cognitive-behavioral methods help people learn effective coping skills for self-regulation, mood management, and living vitaly through the maninainence of their own behavioral health.
I will assist you in changing life defeating habits or behavioral “compulsions” like internet and computer game addiction, gambling, spending, sex, pornography and the like. I teach various harm reduction and relapse prevention strategies for people that struggle with chemical dependency or addictions (e.g., smoking, eating, alcohol and other drug abuse).
Methods for couples therapy, marital counseling, and family change include Rational Emotive Therapy, Collaborative Behavioral Couples Counseling, Schema-Focused Cognitive Therapy, harm-reduction strategies and similar approaches to interpersonal change.
